ALBANY – Sullivan County, with a 7.1 percent increase in new jobs in December 2019 compared to 2018, remains the county with the highest growth rate in the state, the state Labor Department reported on Thursday.

Greene County was a distant second in 2019 with a job growth rate of 1.8 percent. That was followed by a 1.2 percent growth in Ulster County.

The Dutchess-Putnam Metropolitan Division experienced 0.7 percent job growth while Columbia County was stagnant and the Orange-Rockland-Westchester Metro Area experienced a 0.1 percent job loss.

For the 12-month period ending December 2019, private-sector jobs in the Hudson Valley increased by 2,200, or 0.3 percent, to 818,700.

Gains were largest in leisure and hospitality (+4,600); educational and health services (+4,200); financial activities (+1,900); and natural resources, mining, and construction (+600).

Losses were largest in trade, transportation and utilities (-5,000; professional and business services (-1,600); other services -1,500); and manufacturing (-800).

The labor department said the region’s private-sector job growth has slowed down considerably in December 2019.
