Woman charged with murder in Middletown stabbing death

MIDDLETOWN – A 19-year-old Middletown woman has been charged with murder in the stabbing death of a 17-year-old man on Tuesday evening.

Roy Boyd of Middletown was found lying on the sidewalk in front of 66 East Main Street. He was rushed to Orange Regional Medical Center in the Town of Wallkill where he died.

Police said Boyd and an acquaintance, Brandon Royer, 19, of Middletown, had engaged in a dispute with Johnson, who was Royer’s former girlfriend. Royer and Johnson has reportedly been involved in a disagreement over the phone earlier in the day and Royer and Boyd drove to her home to confront her.

A verbal disagreement between Royer and Johnson then took place in the street in front of the residence where it is alleged that Johnson pulled knife and stabbed Boyd shortly after 6 p.m..

Boyd fled and collapsed on East Main Street.

Royer and Johnson continued their dispute during which time it is alleged Royer picked up a blunt instrument and threw it through a window at Johnson’s residence.

Royer was located on East Main with Boyd and taken into custody on charge of criminal mischief. Johnson was located at her residence and charged with murder.

The investigation was conducted by Middletown detectives in conjunction with State Police.

No other suspects are being sought, but individuals who may have witnessed the incident or have other pertinent information are asked to call the police department.

Boyd attended Middletown High School and district staff has made grief counseling available to students and staff who may need assistance. Parents may contact school administration to receive services.
