Metro-North train crashes into tractor-trailer

SLOATSBURG – The Town of Ramapo Police Department responded to calls of an accident involving a Metro-North train and a tractor-trailer at the crossing at Route 17 and Washington Avenue, Tuesday evening shortly after 6 p.m.

The tractor-trailer, hauling office supplies had stopped on the tracks when the train carrying more than 70 passengers struck the trailer broadside.  No injuries were reported by the train passengers who were transferred to buses to complete their journeys.  The destroyed trailer’s cargo was spewed all over the area.

Service on the Port Jervis line resumed later Tuesday night after authorities deemed the rail line safe for operation.  The MTA is investigating the incident.
