WASHINGTONVILLE –  Assemblyman Colin Schmitt (R,C,I-New Windsor) will be hosting a free NARCAN training this month with his addiction advisory council. The free training, open to the public is being held on Thursday, January 30, from 6-8 PM at Schmitt’s district office.  Attendees wishing to attend the training at 6 Depot Street, Suite 103, in Washingtonville are asked to RSVP to Jena Knight at 845-469-6929 or knightjl@nyassembly.gov.

Assemblyman Schmitt held a legislative heroin and opioid roundtable event with the Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler last month to review the current status of the heroin and opioid epidemic in the Hudson Valley and evaluate community-based and legislative actions that could assist in further combating this ongoing crisis. Part of the outcome of that roundtable was the decision to host this free NARCAN training.

In partnership with Assemblyman Schmitt, the Narcan training will be conducted by certified trainers from local organizations including Keep It Moving and Catholic Charities of Orange, Ulster, and Sullivan.

Assemblyman Colin J. Schmitt stated, “The heroin and opioid epidemic continues to plague our communities and state. This free educational Narcan training will be a way to help combat it and I invite all interested residents to attend. It is critical that we continue to raise awareness through events like this. I will continue to work with my addiction advisory council to advance new legislative, educational, and community initiatives to help those struggling and progress forward in combating this epidemic. Working together we will one day see the end of this ongoing tragedy.”
