WHITE PLAINS – Currently the office of Westchester County executive has a three-term limit – 12 years – but current Executive George Latimer is proposing reducing that to two terms for a total of eight years.

Latimer’s proposed change would include his number of terms in office.

Reducing the number of terms would provide the opportunity for younger, minority and other aspirants to run for the office and bring with them fresh ideas, he said.

The proposal would not affect term limits for county legislators, who may now serve six terms with a maximum of 12 years in office.
