WASHINGTON – Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney’ s(D, NY-18) bill calling for PFAS testing, passed in the House of Representatives with bipartisan support. The bill was included in a larger bill package, the PFAS Action Act, which Maloney cosponsored.

The Hudson Valley lawmaker’s bill requires testing of all PFAS substances under the Toxic Substances Control Act by any entity that manufactures or processes PFAS chemicals.

The bill also requires the Environmental Protection Agency to set testing requirements for all PFAS substances and makes all results public.

“Every family across the Hudson Valley and America deserves to know they have a reliable, clean water source,” he said.

The concern about PFAS chemicals in the region stems from the revelation over three years ago that the chemical was finding its way from the Stewart Air National Guard Base into Washington Lake, the City of Newburgh’s water source.

Since then, the spigot was turned off and the city has been receiving its water from the New York City Catskill Aqueduct with the state footing the bill.

The measure now goes to the Senate for action.
