RAMAPO – Fire that destroyed a house on Rockland Lane in the Town of Ramapo early Saturday morning claimed one life and investigators continue to explore the cause of the blaze. Venel Edouard, a soccer coach and security guard at Spring Valley High School perished in the fire.
Town Police said the fire was called in to 911 at 5:37 a.m. with a report of one person trapped inside.
When police and firefighters arrived on the scene, the residence was fully engulfed in flames.
When the blaze was extinguished, the victim was found inside. No other injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation by the Ramapo Police Investigations Division and the Rockland County Bureau of Criminal Investigation.
Fire departments on the scene were Hillcrest, South Spring Valley, Spring Valley, Tallman, Nanuet, and Monsey with Spring Hill Volunteer Ambulance Corps assisting.
