Good Samaritans hold down pit bull after it attacks tot and man

SPRING VALLEY – A 29-year-old Spring Valley man is credited with saving a one-year-old child from an attack by a pit bull late Tuesday afternoon in Spring Valley.

Spring Valley Police said the loose dog attacked the child in the area of 20 Hoyt Street around 4 p.m. and the man came to the tot’s aid. After he struggled with the dog, it bit him causing significant injury to his arm.

The dog was finally restrained and contained by another person and when police arrived, the animal was secured inside a patrol car.

The victims were transported to local hospitals by Hatzolah ambulance.

The dog was transported by police to the Hi Tor animal shelter where it is being quarantined.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing and police have tentatively identified the owner.
