POUGHKEEPSIE – Dutchess County Clerk Bradford Kendall has announced that, through a partnership with the Poughkeepsie Public Library District, the DMV and Clerk’s Poughkeepsie office, located at 22 Market Street, will now serve as a free Pop Up Library, providing access to a digital media library of adult and children’s reading materials. The Pop Up Library Project aligns with the Dutchess County Government “Dutchess Reads” initiative aimed at promoting reading throughout the County by overcoming barriers to literacy.

Dutchess County Office Building at 22 Market Street in Poughkeepsie.

Visitors to the first-floor office area of 22 Market Street can access the Pop Up Library by using a personal device (smartphone, laptop, or tablet) to search available Wi-Fi networks and connect to the “Pop Up Library.” Once enabled, patrons are to open a web browser and type www.popuplib.com, which contains hundreds of books searchable by subject, title, or author which can be saved to read offline for the duration of the loan. The service is offered free of charge without needing an app or library card.

Dutchess County Clerk Brad Kendall stated, “The County Clerk’s Office is pleased to offer the free Pop Up Library service to all who come into our office – another opportunity to collaborate with the Poughkeepsie Public Library, providing visitors access to e-books and bolstering our efforts to ensure ‘Dutchess Reads.’ By employing the use of Wi-Fi technology, we are fostering literacy to all ages, reading level and subjects of interest.”

Tom Lawrence, Library Director at Poughkeepsie Public Library District, stated, “We are very excited to have the County Clerk’s Office as a partner in this new endeavor. The County Clerk’s Office enables our library to extend its presence and ability for readers to access e-books.”

Additional Pop Up Library locations in Poughkeepsie include the Poughkeepsie Underwear Factory, 8 North Cherry Street; and My Barber Shop, 34 Raymond Avenue. For more information, please contact the Reference Desk at the Adriance Memorial Library by calling (845) 485-3445; ext. 3702.
