Gregg Pulver, Chairman of the Dutchess County Legislature

MID-HUDSON – County legislatures across the Mid-Hudson Valley are reorganizing their leadership as they do at the beginning of every new year.

Dutchess County lawmakers chose Gregg Pulver as chairman for the third straight year.

Pulver would like to develop countywide animal welfare laws in conjunction with the SPCA and would also like to open discussion about possibly reducing the size of the legislature, which now stands at 25. “I don’t know that I would want to go less than 19. It would always be an odd number obviously and I don’t know if we would want to go below 19; so somewhere between the 19 and 25,” he said.

Orange County lawmakers chose Stephen Brescia to lead them for another year and he has goals he would like to address. “We are looking at possibly selling the quarry (in Goshen), the three buildings in Newburgh. We are looking at potential uses at the Valley View (county nursing home) property to keep it as a viable facility as it has been despite the cuts in Medicaid in the State of New York,” he said.

The Rockland County Legislature has chosen Alden Wolfe as its chairman. This is the second time he has held the post.

In Westchester County, the Board of Legislators selected Benjamin Boykin as chairman for the second year.

Ulster County lawmakers meet this evening (Wednesday) to select a chair.
