STONY POINT – State Assemblyman Colin Schmitt (R, New Windsor), who has been an outspoken critic of the new state criminal justice changes, praised Friday’s news that ICE has detailed an illegal immigrant who was released without bail after he drove unlicensed striking and killing a woman in Stony Point.

Jorge Flores-Villalbla struck and killed Rosie Osai as she walked along Route 9W in Stony Point on December 24, 2019.

Now he has been detained by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

“Flores-Villalbla was released without bail under these new changes endangered the entire community and showed how egregious these changes are,” Schmitt said. “It has now been confirmed that Flores-Villalbla was previously deported from the United States.”

Schmitt said because of federal intervention, “Rosie’s family will receive the justice that was denied by New York State. We must immediately repeal these criminal justice changes to ensure the safety of all residents of New York.”
