POUGHKEEPSIE – Poughkeepsie Mayor Rob Rolison took his ceremonial oath of office Wednesday afternoon. Surrounded by family, friends, city employees and a wide array of elected officials, Rolison held his hand on the Bible held by his son Christopher and was sworn into his second term as mayor.
Former Poughkeepsie City Court Judge Tom O’Neill was the master of ceremonies and touted all of the progress that the city has made under the leadership of Rolison.
Judge O’Neill touted the deficit reduction and economic development as major accomplishments of Rolison and his administration.
In the brief ceremony, Rolison told the crowd that he looks forward to continuing the progress that Poughkeepsie has made since he took office in 2016. Vowing to continue to work hard “putting people and Poughkeepsie first, above all else,” Rolison said he looks forward to his new term. “This is the greatest job in my life,” said the retired Town of Poughkeepsie Police detective.
Rolison noted that the common council will have new leadership with Sarah Salem being elected to the at-large position as well as a new council member for the second ward, Evan Menist. “I look forward to working with Sarah Salem and the council,” said the mayor. The common council will convene on Thursday evening for the reorganization meeting.
