New Year’s Day fire in Newburgh

NEWBURGH – City firefighters in Newburgh were kept busy on New Year’s morning with a fully involved structure fire at 117 West Parmenter Street.

Mutual aid was requested from the Stewart Air National Guard and West Point fire departments while Cornwall-on-Hudson and New Windsor were on standby at the city public safety building.

The fire was knocked down with hand lines and a ladder truck was used to enter the second floor.

An Orange County deputy fire coordinator was on the scene along with an advanced life support crew from Mobile Life Support Services.

Newburgh City Police blocked off West Parmenter while fire-fighting operations were underway.

The cause of the blaze was under investigation and it was not immediately known if there were any injuries.
