The Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall (MSLC) Institute for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery is now offering free monthly weight loss surgery education and support groups at its Newburgh campus. The seminars will take place on the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m., which will be followed by the support groups on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at 7 p.m. There will also be a nutrition class offered on the 4th Thursday of each month at 6 p.m.
All seminars, support groups, and classes will be held in Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall’s Drake Conference Center located at 70 DuBois Street in Newburgh.
One of the first steps when considering bariatric surgery is to learn about the different surgical weight loss options available. The free seminars will include how each surgery works, the risks and benefits, as well as how the team can help patients make these important lifestyle changes.

Board-certified surgeons currently performing weight loss procedures at MSLC include Dr. Jaime Cepeda, Dr. Seth Judd, Dr. John Powell, Dr. Ramon Rivera, and Dr. Wayne Weiss.
MSLC offers Lap-Band, Sleeve Gastrectomy, and Gastric Bypass procedures. Each surgery has a unique profile of effectiveness, safety, and risks, and the team of expert surgeons helps patients choose the right operation to fit their needs. All surgeries are performed laparoscopically.
The Montefiore St. Luke’s Cornwall Institute for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery is accredited under MBSAQIP (Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program) as a comprehensive center of excellence through the American College of Surgeons and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
