POUGHKEEPSIE – The man who jumped to his death from the Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge into the Hudson River on New Year’s Day was a 29-year-old Red Hook man, the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.

Witnesses told deputies responding to the bridge on Wednesday afternoon that a man had parked his car and then jumped over the side. His body was observed in the water close to the bridge and was removed with the assistance of the Ulster Hose Company fire boat.

The sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by the Dutchess County Medical Examiner’s Office, State Police, Town of Ulster Police, Ulster County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Bridge Authority, Rhinecliff Fire Department, Northern Dutchess Paramedics and Ulster Hose Company.
