MIDDLETOWN – Former Middletown City Alderman Edward Cummings died on Saturday, December 21. He was 83.
Cummings’ public service was not limited to his common council duties. He served as a Middletown police commissioner and served in many positions with the McQuoid Fire Company.
Following his service in the Navy as a hospital corpsman, Cummings began a career with the US Postal Service retiring as postmaster in Wurtsboro. He was a 60-year member of the National Association of Letter Carriers.
In addition to his service at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Middletown, he worked as a security guard at Orange County Community College.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be performed at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Middletown on Friday December 27 at 10 a.m. Interment will take place on Monday, December 30 at 11a.m. at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
