November unemployment increases slightly

MID-HUDSON – Unemployment figures for the 12-month period ended in November inched up slightly, although all counties remained under the four percent level.

Columbia County continued to have the lowest rate of joblessness in the state, at 2.7 percent, up from 2.6 percent last November.

Dutchess, Ulster and Rockland counties each had 3.2 percent rates of unemployment in November 2019. Dutchess increased from 3.0 percent; Rockland rose from 3.1 percent; and Ulster remained flat.

Putnam County, with 3.4 percent joblessness, rose from 3.1 percent in November 2018.

Westchester and Orange counties each had 3.5 percent rates of unemployment in November; both counties rose from 3.3 percent one year earlier.

Sullivan County rose from 3.5 percent last year to 3.6 percent this year and Greene County increased unemployment from 3.8 percent to 3.9 percent.

The November 2019 unemployment rate for the Hudson Valley is 3.4 percent, down from 3.6 percent in October 2019 and up from 3.2 percent in November 2018.

In November 2019, there were 38,700 people unemployed in the region, down from 41,700 in October 2019 and up from 36,900 in November 2018.

Year-over-year in November 2019, the labor force increased by 900 or 0.1 percent to 1.14 million.
