WALLKILL – Retiring Wallkill Town Supervisor Edward Diana has successfully undergone emergency quadruple bypass heart surgery. His daughters posted the news on Facebook Thursday afternoon.

“I swear he’s the strongest guy we know,” wrote his daughter, Danielle Diana-Smith. “Emergency quadruple bypass surgery was not what dad had planned for yesterday morning, but he made it out of surgery and is doing ok.”

The heart surgery was performed at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital in New York City.

“My mom, Lindsay and I are incredibly thankful for all of you who have reached out with positive thoughts and prayers. Please keep those prayers coming that he’ll be home for Christmas,” Diana-Smith wrote on Facebook.

Diana is no stranger to major surgery. Several years ago he underwent a liver transplant after suffering from fatty liver disease. He was Orange County executive at the time and retired from that post to concentrate on his recovery.

After making a full recovery, he ran and won the Wallkill town supervisor’s post two years ago.
