MONTICELLO – The Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office has charged three people in connection with the rash of burglaries at the Forest Park Estates complex on Anawana Lake Road in the Town of Thompson.
Anthony Gilson, 19, Tracy Sanders, 32, both of Monticello and a 17-year-old were arrested and charged.
Deputies were first called there at about 8:45 p.m. on Sunday, December 15.
They entered a residence where the front door appeared to be damaged and once inside, the deputies confronted the three suspects who bailed out of the second-story windows.
A foot chance ensued and the perpetrators were able to elude the deputies by running into the nearby woods. Deputies called for assistance from the Monticello, State Police and Environmental Conservation Police K-9 unit.
About two hours later, a 17-year-old suspect was located by the K-9 unit some 100 years into the woods and taken into custody. The two other suspects were able to evade the dragnet.
The following day while following up leads, sheriff’s detectives arrested Gilson and Sanders.
The investigation revealed the trio had been operating for some time and had burglarized several seasonal residences in the area.
All three were charged with 25 counts of felony burglary and criminal mischief.
The teen was issued an appearance ticket under the state’s “raise the age” law and released pending a future appearance in family court.
Bail was set at $20,000 for Gilson and no bail for Sanders.
Both were committed to the Sullivan County Jail.
Sheriff Michael Schiff thanked the responding agencies and the district attorney’s office for their assistance with the investigation. He said additional charges are anticipated.
