Teacher convicted of endangering welfare of child, harassment

NEW CITY – A former special education teacher at Stony Point Elementary School who taught a group of special needs children was convicted of endangering the welfare of a child and harassment.

During the school year 2016-17, Yessenia Vasquez, 46, of West Haverstraw, used her foot to lift up a disabled five-year-old’s head, and pulled her head up several times using her ponytail.

She was previously convicted of harassment on April 17, 2019 for conduct directed another disabled student at the same school during the 2015016 school year.

Vasquez faces up to one year in the Rockland County Jail or three years of probation when sentenced in February 2020.
