Legislation naming Pine Plains Post Office in honor of Chief Petty Officer Shannon Kent signed into law

WASHINGTON – The Pine Plains Post Office is officially going to be named for Senior Chief Petty Officer Shannon Kent, a native of the community, who was killed on January 16, 2019 while serving in Syria.

“Our nation is forever grateful to Senior Chief Petty Officer Shannon M. Kent who devoted her life to protecting our country and defending our democracy,” said Congressman Antonio Delgado (D, NY-19), who sponsored the legislation naming the post office.

“The courage and devotion to our nation shown by Senior Chief Petty Officer Kent should continue to serve as an inspiration to us all, and I am elated Dutchess County will be home to this permanent fixture honoring her life, service and legacy,” Delgado said.

Kent, a wife and mother of two was 35 at the time of her death.
