GOSHEN – A New Windsor man pled guilty before Orange County Court Judge Robert Freehill on Monday to charges of attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

Ryan Discua, also known as “Soda Pop,” 23, shot a man in the City of Newburgh on October 9, 2019 at about 10:50 p.m. in the vicinity of 129 William Street. The victim suffered serious physical injury.

Discua admitted to having illegally possession a loaded 9mm pistol when he was arrested by Newburgh City Police on October 10 on Broadway in Newburgh.

Pursuant to an agreement at the time of Discua’s guilty plea, the district attorney’s office will recommend 18 years in state prison on the attempted murder charge and a concurrent term of 10 years on the weapon charge when he is sentenced in January 2020.

“This defendant endangered numerous residents, not just the man he attempted to kill,” said District Attorney David Hoovler. “The City of Newburgh community deserves to be free from wanton gunplay on the streets where they live, work and raise their families.”
