GOSHEN – Some 1,000 people came out at noon on Saturday to honor the more than 3,000 American service members who have been laid to rest at the Orange County Veterans Cemetery in Goshen. It was one of hundreds of such events across the county today as part of Wreathes Across America, where a wreathe is placed at the grave of every service member.

Orange County Veterans Services Director Christian Farrell urged those in attendance to pay homage to those buried there.

“The freedoms we enjoy today have not come without a steep price,” he said. “Lying here among us and at cemeteries throughout this nation area men and women who gave their lives so that we can live in freedom and without fear. We can worship as we see fit; we can raise our children to believe as we do. We can travel from one end of this great nation to the other and not have to ask permission to go.”

Farrell said in America, we have the right to vote for whomever we want. “Our nation stands as a standing beacon of liberty and freedom to the entire world,” he said. “We shall not forget you,” he said of those who gave their lives for American freedom.”
