CARMEL – Aidan Jenkins of Putnam Valley has quite a future.

The four-year-old son of Jessica and Gary Jenkins was lauded by the Putnam Legislature for his quick thinking and heroics that saved his mom from serious injury.

Legislator Bill Gouldman told his colleagues and an audience of a dozen people gathered at the historic Putnam Courthouse for the lawmaker’s regular monthly meeting, “Aidan was home with his mom, Jessica, who was 27 weeks pregnant when around 8:30 p.m., she accidentally fell down a flight of stairs landing face down on her pregnant belly. Jessica cried out in pain and was unable to move.”

Gouldman said kept his cool and helped his mom by calling his dad to let him know his mom needed help.

Gary Jenkins was attending a meeting at the Putnam Valley Volunteer Ambulance Corps at the time and he immediately gathered a crew and raced home to assist his wife.

While waiting for the ambulance to arrive, Aidan found his ‘paramedic bag’ and checked on his mother’s injuries.

Once the rescue rig arrived, Jessica was taken to the hospital where she was checked out before returning home.

Gouldman called the bravery demonstrated by Aidan “in such a scary situation as remarkable especially given the fact that he is only four years old.”

Jessica said she and her unborn daughter are both doing well with the baby expected to be delivered at the end of next month.

Gary called his son “our little hero.” Gouldman added, “We have a future member of the Putnam Valley Volunteer Ambulance Corps in the making.”

When asked if Aidan had anything to say during the presentation ceremony, the little boy looked around, paused for a moment and said: Thank you all.”
