KIRYAS JOEL – There was a heavy State Police presence at the main synagogue in the Village of Kiryas Joel on Thursday morning in the wake of the murders of two Hasidic people in Jersey City on Tuesday. Both Leah Mindel Ferentz, 33, and Moshe Hirsh Deutsch, 24, were both buried at Kiryas Joel early Thursday. Ferentz and her husband, who owns the kosher supermarket where the killings took place, grew up in Kiryas Joel.

Several State Police cars and troopers were in the village on Thursday as officers mingled with residents.

Village Public Safety Director Moses Witriol said they appreciated the additional law enforcement support following the attacks in New Jersey.
