MONTICELLO – The Sullivan County Legislature Thursday voted 9-0 to approve the county’s 2020, $233 million budget, which includes a 1.59 percent tax levy increase.

“It’s very solid,” said Luis Alvarez, the legislature chairman, “very conscious.”

The budget includes some personnel changes and an increase for county public transportation to help with increased bus ridership.

“There was some extra money put in for buses,” said Alvarez. Some $300,000 was added to the budget for additional routes for the Move Sullivan service.

Legislature Chairman Luis Alvarez says the 2020 budget is “very solid.”

The county bus service was started this past summer and was an instant success.

The spending plan includes $6.6 million for road and bridgework; $300,000 for towns and villages to demolish unsafe structures; $300,000 for nonprofits and community groups; $227.000 to complete a new Delaware River access point in Barryville; and $200,000 to build a tower in Monticello in anticipation of expanding the broadband wireless pilot program.
