DUTCHESS COUNTY – A senior White House official has lost his Hopewell Junction home as a result of a foreclosure action.
Dan Scavino, considered President Trump’s director of Social Media, purchased the 4,200 square foot home on St. Andrews Road in the Legends at Beekman Country Club in 2008, with his wife at the time, Jennifer. According to county land records, the couple paid $560,000 for the house.
By the time the Scavinos purchased the home, Dan had developed a very strong personal relationship with President Trump, having worked as a caddie at Trump National Golf Course in Westchester since he was 16 years old.
After college, he returned to work at the golf course in 1998 and worked his way up to general manager.
Scavino and his wife had a $409,000 mortgage on the property in 2010. Court records indicate that a modification to the mortgage occurred in 2012.
In April of 2015, Scavino used Twitter to announce that his wife, 39-years-old at the time, had been suffering from Chronic Inflammatory Polyneuropathy Disease developed after contracting Lyme disease from a tick bite. Just two months later, Scavino was working on the Trump campaign.
A month after that, in July, the Scavinos filed for bankruptcy citing mounting medical expenses relating to Jennifer’s disease. The couple and their two children continued to live in the Hopewell Junction home.
In January of 2018, Jennifer Scavino filed for divorce in Dutchess County.
In June, Wells Fargo NA, holder of the mortgage on the marital residence, brought a foreclosure action against both Daniel and Jennifer. In the foreclosure documents, the plaintiff alleged that the Scavinos made their last mortgage payment in August of 2017.
The lawsuit claims that the defendants owed a balance of $350,203.54. The Scavinos, according to the court documents, made no attempts to pay the debt.
In 2019, Acting Dutchess County Supreme Court Justice Peter Forman signed the order allowing the house to be sold by a court-appointed referee. The order was carried out on November 6, 2019, when the house was sold for $466,000 to a couple residing in nearby Wappingers Falls, New York.
Attempts to contact Scavino via phone and email were unsuccessful.
Scavino has an official title at the White House is Special Assistant to the President and Senior Advisor for Digital Strategy for the Trump Administration. He receives an annual salary of $183,000 for his work.
