POUGHKEEPSIE – State Police in Troop K are continuing to investigate the 1987 murder of an 18-year-old City of Poughkeepsie man.

Clinton Leroy Elting III was found dead in the roadside brush off Cardinal Road in the Town of Hyde Park on July 22, 1987.

He had been shot several times in the head on July 18, 1987, police believe.

Events lead up to Elting’s murder began in the City of Poughkeepsie and resulted in his murder in Hyde Park, police said.

He was wearing matching Bermuda flower pattern shorts and a shirt with a bright red, violet, black, green and white pattern. He was also wearing black sneakers with white laces.

Four days before Elting’s body was discovered, on July 18, 1987, Rodney Pittmen, also known as “Dula,” was shot and wounded in the Town of Poughkeepsie.

Anyone with information related to this investigation or event surrounding Elting’s murder is asked to call Investigator Winn at 845-677-7300.
