PORT JERVIS – This month Orange and Rockland Utilities begins the process of replacing its Port Jervis electric substation with a new, larger facility. The new substation is expected to be in service in June 2021.

The $38 million project will be in the same vicinity as the existing substation on West Main Street and Clark Street. “The new facility will help us better serve our customers’ power needs in the area,” said Project Manager Scott Olszewski, in a letter to city residents. “It will offer more switching options to help restore service interruptions more quickly and allow us to better integrate renewable energy and advanced technologies onto the power grid.”

Olszewski said O&R estimates the new substation will, under current rates, result in about $1.9 million in increased tax revenues to the city and schools each year.

Contractor crews will work generally between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Traffic control flaggers, cones, and signs will be deployed for workplace safety as necessary.
