WHITE PLAINS – The Westchester County 2020 budget was a collaborative effort of County Executive George Latimer and the Board of Legislators and reduces the property tax levy by $1 million, the first decline in nine years.

Latimer signed the spending plan while at a small business in White Plains on Tuesday. “Small is the new big in terms of economic development. The days of looking for a corporate headquarters to come to Westchester County, the days of IBM, PepsiCo in those days, Nestles, Texaco, that came to Westchester County in the 1960s. We might still have one of those yet to come, but that is less likely to be the case. It’s more likely for businesses like this one to grow from nine employees to a larger number of employees as their business model expands,” he said. Latimer said the county’s Industrial Development Agency incentives help those small businesses grow.

The 2020 spending plan also includes $1.5 million in new housing and community development, $400,000 for additional environmental incentives, $150,000 for Census 2020 initiatives, adding a hate crime specialist, and increasing Playland’s marketing budget by $250,000.
