WHITE PLAINS – A 37-year-old staff sergeant at the US Military Academy at West Point has been arrested by federal authorities and charged with distribution and receipt of child pornography.
If convicted, Patrick Edwin Gorychka faces from five to 20 years in prison.
According to the complaint filed in White Plains federal court, Gorychka was engaged in an online chat room known to be frequented by individuals with a sexual interest in children.
An FBI online undercover employee learned of the situation in October 2019 and the investigation began tracing explicit communications between the undercover employee and Gorychka, who was using “epg84.”
On November 2, 2019, Gorychka transmitted two links containing several images and videos of children engaging in sexually explicit activity, authorities allege.
