TOWN OF WAPPINGER – The Wappinger Town Board has passed the 2020 budget with only one “no” vote coming from Councilwoman Angela Bettina.

The $16.8 million spending plan includes money for the expansion of parks and recreation programming, improvements to the recycling center, and more road repairs while staying under the state tax cap, said Town Supervisor Richard Thurston.

“Our 2020 final budget continues to identify achievable outcomes while staying within the property tax levy cap.  I have honored my commitment, and, all the while, have continued to expand our core services to the community,” he said.

“The budget does not sacrifice any “safety, health, or welfare needs,” Thurston noted.

In speaking to the tax cap, he said, “The Town Board and I decided to ease the taxpayer burden by keeping the tax levy assessment in 2020 steady at $1.93 for town outside of village.”

Senior Town Board Member William Beale supported the budget and said, “As we conclude the town budget process for 2020, I am proud that our town board was, once again, able to remain under the two percent tax cap. By closely monitoring spending, and creating efficiencies within departments, we were again able to maintain tax rates that are among the lowest in Dutchess County.”
