WASHINGTON – The measure renaming the Pine Plains Post Office after fallen Naval Senior Chief Petty Officer Shannon Kent, a Dutchess County native, is on its way to the president’s desk for his signature.

The Senate this past week approved the legislation changing the name, which was sponsored and previously okayed in the House of Representatives by Antonio Delgado (D, NY-19).

Kent was killed in January 2019 in Syria at age 35 by a suicide bomber during her fifth tour in the Middle East.

“Senior Chief Petty Office Shannon M. Kent devoted her life to protecting our country and defending our democracy – and with Senate passage of this legislation, we are one step closer to renaming the Pine Plains Post Office the Senior Chief Petty Officer Shannon M. Kent Post Office,” said Delgado. “The courage and devotion to our nation shown by SCPO Kent should be an inspiration to all of us.”
