CLINTON – A fire at a million-dollar thoroughbred horse breeding farm destroyed two barns Friday night.

Shortly after 10 p.m. the West Clinton Fire Department was dispatched to Edition Farm on Spooky Hollow Road for reports of a barn fire.  Arriving firefighters encountered two barns fully engulfed in raging flames.  A request for a second alarm was made, bringing firefighters from the Roosevelt, Pleasant Valley, East Clinton, Rhinebeck, Stanford, and Hillside Fire Departments.

The volunteer firefighters were able to source water from a dry hydrant that had been installed in a nearby pond, allowing them to draft right from the body of water, supplementing the water carried on the engines themselves.

West Clinton Fire Chief Brian Dingee said the firefighters had the blaze under control in approximately two-and-a-half hours.

No first responders were injured in the inferno and the horses had been rescued by farm personnel.

The cause and origin of the blaze are under investigation, however initial reports indicate that a malfunctioning tractor may have been the source of the fire.

Edition Farm is owned by Vivien and Harry Malloy.  The award-winning breeder has been operating Edition Farm since 1986 having moved their business there after outgrowing their Westchester farm.
