RED HOOK – New York State Pollice have arrested 26-year-old Keith Potik after he shot at two Red Hook Police Officers on Friday afternoon.
Shortly after 1:00 pm on Friday, Red Hook officers responded to the area of 19 Princeton Street in College Park for a property dispute involving a trailer. When officers arrived and began interviewing Potik, he produced a handgun and began shooting at the officers. The officers returned fire and called for assistance. State Police said that during the exchange of gunfire, Potik’s dog was killed but neither the officers or Potik were injured. The suspect then fled on foot in the area of Whalesback Road.
Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the call for assistance including a K-9 unit from the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, NYS Forest Rangers, New York State Troopers, and additional Red Hook Police units. Potik was apprehended while running through the yard of a home on Albie Road.
The defendant was arraigned in the town of Rhinebeck Court on two counts of Attempted Murder in the 1st degree, class A-I felonies, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 2nd degree, a class C felony. He was remanded to the Dutchess County Jail without bail. Mr. Potik is next scheduled appear in court on November 21, 2019, at 6:30 p.m.
New York State Police have indicated that the investigation is ongoing.
