RED HOOK – An alleged dispute between two parties arguing over a trailer in the vicinity of 19 Princeton Road in Red Hook led to an afternoon manhunt in Northern Dutchess County.

A Village of Red Hook Police Officer responded to the College Park neighborhood in the town of Red Hook.  Upon arrival, one of the parties allegedly fired shots at the officer and then fled on foot.  Multiple police agencies responded to the area and Red Hook Schools were placed on lockdown.  Residents in the area, including Whalesback Road, were told to stay in their houses.

The New York State Police took charge of the incident and reported a short time later that a suspect had been located and taken into custody.  Sources say that the perpetrator in custody has been identified as Keith Potik.  Assisting at the scene were members of the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office, including a K-9 unit.

Dutchess County Executive Marcus Molinaro, a resident of Northern Dutchess weighed in on the incident, saying “We are grateful to the officers of the Red Hook Police Department, Dutchess County Sheriff’s Deputies, and the New York State Police for their rapid response.  Because of their swift actions and bravery, a dangerous situation was quickly ended, and the individual stopped.  Violent situations like this are, unfortunately, becoming all too familiar, but that doesn’t make it any less unsettling when they happen close to home.”

The story will be updated when additional information is released by the New York State Police.
