POUGHKEEPSIE – Early Friday afternoon City of Poughkeepsie Police were dispatched to a store at 469 Main Street for a report of a man with a handgun menacing the store clerk.

When police arrived at the location, they were informed that the suspect had fled.  A large contingent of police cars swarmed the area of Main and North Hamilton Streets, searching for the suspect.  At one tense moment, police stopped two men at gunpoint at the intersection of Main and North Hamilton.  After a brief encounter, one of the detained men told officers that the person they were looking for had run behind a neighboring building.

According to Police Captain Richard Wilson, 52-year-old Shawn Darcy was apprehended a short time later.  He has been charged with Petit Larceny and Menacing.  No handgun has been recovered.
