TOWN OF POUGHKEEPSIE – An arrest has been made in connection with the 11:41 am November 11th crash at the North Road Rite Aid Pharmacy.  On that day, an individual crashed a pickup truck into a box truck and then careened through the front wall of the Rite Aid Pharmacy on North Road in Poughkeepsie.

A store employee was injured when the truck crashed into the store.  The Town of Poughkeepsie Police Department responded to the scene, along with Fairview firefighters and Dutchess County Sheriff’s deputies.  Police Officers investigated the incident and were seen administering a field sobriety test to the operator of the pickup truck.  As a result of their investigation police determined that 40-year-old David Bergsma of Wallkill, uninjured in the wreck, was operating the 2005 Ford F-350 while in an impaired condition, by use of a drug.

Bergsma was subsequently arrested and charged with the felonies of Driving While Ability Impaired by Drugs and Aggravated Unlicensed Operation in the First Degree along with the Misdemeanor charge of a violation of Ignition Interlock Device restriction.

The accused was arraigned by Town of Poughkeepsie Justice Stephan Krakower and remanded to the Dutchess County Jail on $20,000 cash bail or $40,000 bond.
