POUGHKEEPSIE – Celtica Nova, a high-energy, bagpipe-driven, Celtic hard rock act is coming to the Majed J. Nesheiwat Convention Center (formerly the Mid-Hudson Civic Center) on March 20, 2020.

The band features bagpipers Duncan Knight and Jane Espie from Scotland, a violinist from Bulgaria, and a drummer and bassist from Austria, along with other musicians.  Alternative Ulster, a Hudson Valley band will open the show for Celtica.  Danielle Anderson, President of the Mid-Hudson Civic Center Inc. (MHCC) noted that several legendary performers have played on the Nesheiwat stage including Ray Charles, Ringo Starr, and Ozzy Osbourne.  “We’re very excited to be playing on the same stage as some of the acts that have played here before,” said bagpiper Duncan Knight. https://youtu.be/tl2vMUetjUk

“We get our energy from the audience,” said fellow bagpiper Jane Espie.  “We feed off their energy and we get more crazy, then they get more crazy and it starts a mixture of awesomeness!”  Knight added to Espie’s explanation, noting that the group plays ninety minutes of Scottish and Irish traditional music, along with covers of well-known rock tunes, as well as original tracks.  Unlike the sample performance at the press conference, the show is “much more epic when the rest of the instruments join in,” said Knight.
