KINGSTON – The Saugerties man who shot and killed his former girlfriend on May 31, 2016, lost the appeals to his guilty plea and sentence in Ulster County Court.

Karon Bowden, now 44, shot and killed Amy Louise Burger, 24.

Bowden was sentenced to 24 years to life in state prison following his plea to murder and criminal possession of a weapon.

He also waived his right to appeal, but later appealed the guilty plea and term of sentence.

The Appellate Division of State Supreme Court rejected both arguments and affirmed the county court decision.

At the time of the sentencing, District Attorney Holley Carnright the murder was a “classic case of domestic violence.” He said there had been “some domestic violence and disharmony in the household. He was 42. She was 24. She had moved on. She had decided she wanted to end the relationship and rather than allow her to leave the relationship, he killed her.”
