“The current epidemic of overdose deaths related to opioid use calls out for operations such as these and our collaborative efforts with Probation. Joint operations provide a resourceful approach to positively impact the safety of our communities.”

District Attorney David Hoovler said, “We are in the midst of a heroin epidemic, and many low-level drug defendants, like two of these, only decide to engage in treatment after being arrested.”

He said in 2020, the upcoming bail reforms will adversely affect our ability to cause those defendants to engage in treatment and will hinder our efforts to bring to justice those who peddle dangerous drugs to those whose addiction is hard to for them to help themselves.”
