KAUNEONGA LAKE – Republicans in Sullivan County Tuesday won both county court judge and county clerk races.

District Attorney James Farrell and Deputy County Clerk Russell Reeves beat out their Democratic opponents Mamakating Town Justice Cynthia Dolan and David Sager for county clerk. Both Republicans won with close to 60 percent of the vote.

Reeves said he looks forward to building on the foundation of retiring County Clerk Dan Briggs and plans to continue to improve the clerk’s office.

“Moving forward, I have some ideas for the DMV, how we can improve that and also we’re going to reorganize the clerk’s office. We’re going to get everything online. Most of our things are online now, but we’re going to move forward into the future,” said Reeves. “It’s going to be a very exciting time for the clerk’s office,” he said.

Farrell plans to use his 25 years of experience in the Sullivan justice system to make sure that everyone who comes to county court, in any capacity, is treated fairly and equitably.

“I’m going to make sure that that’s exactly how I run my courtroom every single day,” said Farrell. “Everyone will be treated equally. No one will have an advantage. It’ll be fair, it’ll be impartial and we’ll have real justice here in Sullivan County,” he said.

In addition to winning these two seats, Republicans also increased their majority within the County Legislature Tuesday evening.
