MIDDLETOWN – The City of Middletown is going to donate two old, surplus fire trucks, one to another fire department and the other to a fire truck museum.

The 20-year-old Engine #2 will be delivered to the Hancock Fire Department in the weeks ahead. It is presently in reserve while a new Engine #2 is placed in serve.

Earlier this year, Middletown donated another surplused fire truck to Hancock, noted Common Council President Miguel Rodrigues.

“The first one, unfortunately they flatbedded it up to Hancock and once they went out to drill on it, the engine seized. We knew it was going, but didn’t know how fast it would go,” he said.

Hancock offered to purchase this second truck, but the Middletown council voted to donate it to the rural department.

A second surplused Middletown truck, Fire Truck #6, a 1988 vehicle, has been in reserve since 2009. It will be donated to Fairchester Hose Haulers, the Circleville agency that owns dozens of old fire trucks and uses them for parades, exhibits and sometimes for movies.
