NEWBURGH – State Senator James Skoufis (D, Woodbury) represents the City of Newburgh and is keeping a close eye on its latest financial challenges as officials craft a 2020 budget that eliminates the need to cut firefighter and police positions.

Skoufis has been speaking with city officials to lend his support wherever possible and he feels pretty certain they will find a way out of the latest budget woes.

“I have a high level of confidence that the city manager and others are going to find a way forward and I hope they do their best to find their way out of this mess,” he said.

City officials have just weeks to come up with a plan to save some or all of the 25 positions in the city public safety departments.
