MIDDLETOWN – Zombie utility poles, those broken poles that are left next to new poles, are causing eyesores that Middletown City officials want to remove.

City Public Works Commissioner Jacob Tawil said there is a basic rule to eliminate those poles, but that is apparently not enough.

“The last one off the broken pole would have to remove the pole, the broken one, and I think we have a gap in our code that we cannot force the last wire on the pole to remove the wire, so it stays there,” he said.

Tawil told the common council the city may consider putting teeth into the policy.
