CLERMONT – A 36-year-old Red Hook man was charged with murder on Sunday afternoon in connection with the stabbing death of a Clermont man while the two were in a vehicle in the area of Route 9 and the intersection of Pleasant Vale Road in Clermont.

Columbia County Sheriff’s deputies were called to 120 Pleasant Vale Road in Clermont at about 1:32 a.m. where they found Robert Streib of Red Hook kneeling over the victim, identified as Glenn Unson, 43, of Clermont. He had been stabbed in the chest and abdomen with a knife. He died at the scene.

Sheriff David Bartlett said there was no danger to the community at any time “and the investigation has sown that this was not a random act since both parties were known to each other.”

State Police Forensic Investigative Unit and uniformed troopers were called to assist at both crime scenes. Columbia County District Attorney Paul Czajka responded to the scene and his office is assisting in the investigation along with Columbia County Coroner Bernadette Powis.

Streib is a commissioner of the Red Hook Fire Department.
