PORT JERVIS – State Aid to Municipalities (SAM) grants are nothing new, but for the City of Port Jervis, this year’s is the largest it has ever received – $300,000.

It was secured by State Senator Jennifer Metzger (D,Rosendale). “I was very pleased to be able to secure these funds for the City of Port Jervis to support the mayor’s downtown revitalization efforts, which are so important to the well-being and economic resurgence of the city.”

Mayor Kelly Decker told the city council Monday night the funding will be used for one long overdue historic project.

“It will also pay for the very first time since it was installed in 1888 our Civil War Veterans monument at Orange Square Park. It will be cleaned and repointed,” he said.

The remainder of the funding will be applied toward street repaving work.
