NEW CITY – State Senator David Carlucci announced on Monday that he is running for Congress in the 17th District.

That is the seat being vacated by long-time House member Nita Lowey, a fellow Democrat, who announced last week that she was retiring at the end of the term next year.

Carlucci cited his nine years of experience in the State Senate where he represents Rockland and Westchester county residents.

Carlucci, who said Washington is operating in a “toxic environment” because of President Trump, said if elected, he would focus on fighting for affordability for residents of the district as well as focus on education, climate change, gun reforms, women’s rights, and comprehensive immigration reform “to repair the harm done by President Trump.”
