Job growth in Sullivan County continues to reach new heights

ALBANY – Job growth in Sullivan County for the 12-month period ending in September continued to spiral upward as the latest new figure from the state labor department reflects a 14.2 percent increase.

Hamilton County ranked second in the state with half of that growth (7.7 percent.)

The Sullivan job numbers are a reflection of development of the casino, waterpark, upscale health spa and a number of other projects that are moving forward.

In the Hudson Valley/Catskills, Ulster County recorded the second highest number of new jobs growing by 3.5 percent.

Columbia County had 2.3 percent job growth, followed by the Dutchess-Putnam Metropolitan Division with 1.8 percent growth, Greene County with 1.0 percent growth and the Orange-Rockland-Westchester Metro Area growing by 0.9 percent.

Private sector jobs in the Hudson Valley increased by 12,400, or 1.5 percent, to 818,500.

Gains were largest in leisure and hospitality at 5,700; education and health services, at 5,300; natural resources, mining and construction, at 3,400; and financial activities at 1,300.

Losses were largest in trade, transportation and utilities, at 2,200; and professional and business services at 900.
