ELLENVILLE – Some two dozen people participated in Saturday’s cleanup effort at the Fantine Kill watershed in Ellenville.

Twelve large bags of litter were collected in the event that included a lesson on stream management, the safe removal of litter, and guidance about invasive species along the stream’s 500-foot-long channel.

State Senator Jennifer Metzger (D, Rosendale), her staff and partners Cornell Cooperative Extension Ulster County’s 4-H Tech Wizards Program, Town of Wawarsing Environmental Conservation Commission, Riverkeeper, and the Rondout Creek Watershed Alliance, participated.

“Protecting our local waterways goes hand-in-hand with keeping our communities healthy and thriving, and today is a great reminder for us all to recycle properly and take mindful measures to reduce waste so that it doesn’t end up damaging our precious natural resources,” said Metzger.
